Aromatherapy is a delightful therapeutic modality that engages your senses upon onset into an ecstatic and harmonious stupor. The practice of using essential oils, and other aromatic plant substances, is known as Aromatherapy. Modern research supports the impact of aromas on mood and other mental states. Different essential oils have been shown to produce consistently different brain wave patterns on EEG, even when experimental subjects have reported little perceived difference between the odors and have not noticed changes in mood or alertness. Findings such as these suggest that aromas can have subliminal, or unconscious, effects on our mental states and it is precisely this subliminal effect that aromatherapists hope to capitalize upon when they suggest diffusing specific essential oils into environments where people are likely to feel anxious or agitated. I have found that fragrant essential oils can enrich your life, whether they are used therapeutically, to add a pleasant fragrance to your home, for beauty treatments or for pure pleasure.
I was introduced to aromatherapy by my Reflexology instructor in 2008. I was immediately captivated by the aromas and the influence the properties associated with the essential oils had on my senses and emotions. I began doing my own research on the essential oils so that I could effectively administer them in my personal life and in my wellness business. I started experimenting and making my own blends. I would use them on my clients during reflexology sessions, as well as recommending them to support various health conditions (e.g. sinus and allergy, headaches, hormone balance, circulation, etc.). The results were astounding. I have experienced significant energy healing shifts in my clients during a reflexology session. I recall when a client was very congested and struggled to breathe. She was crying out for relief. During the session I applied a blend of eucalyptus and peppermint oils to her feet. I also focused on her nose, eyes, ears and lungs through her feet. Within minutes she was releasing the congestion and could breathe freely. Other success stories with essential oils and reflexology range from pain reduction, increased energy, stress reduction and hormonal balancing. Essential oils are very concentrated and powerful, so only a very small amount is needed - usually just 1 to 4 drops depending on the method of use. Essential oils should be diluted with a carrier oil before use in aromatherapy. There are several carrier oils that can be used with the essential oils. Sweet Almond oil, apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, calendula oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil and evening primrose oil are a few of the vegetable origin carrier oils used in aromatherapy. A good quality carrier oil should be cold-pressed and unrefined. I use Sweet Almond and Grapeseed oils as carrier oils and occasionally Avocado oil. Essential oils can be utilized by diffusing them into the air, applying them diluted in massage oil, or by adding a few drops to a warm bath. When purchasing essential oils it is important that you purchase organic and quality essential oils. The botanical plant name should be indicated on the bottle. E.g. Rosemary oil (Rosmarinus officinalis) I have developed my own therapeutic blends that I provide to compliment my wellness services. My aromatherapy blends are available in the following sizes.
