Step 1 | Step 2 | Step 3 | Step 4 | Step 5 | Step 6 | Step 7 Nourish Your Spiritual Being Health is the balance of positive and negative elements, forces and energies in harmonious vibration. Our emotional and mental states influence our overall physical well being. Our life energy, vital force is compromised when we experience emotional conditions such as fear, impatience, irritability, anger, fury, self-pity and wrath. These emotions have a warming, deteriorating effect upon the brain and nerve substance and consume it like a burning fire. The physical being is truly guided and dominated by the mind. Many strokes and heart attacks are the result of stress and emotional conflict. Every thought and emotion has a direct effect on the physical components of our body. If there is disharmony in our mind it becomes disease in our physical body. The belief that we all share a connection to a power greater than ourselves is essential to our spiritual well being. It does not matter much how you conceive of that higher power; what matters is the sense of connection to it. It can be the father-god of the Old Testament, Jesus Christ, the Compassionate Buddha, the Great Spirit, the Goddess, pure, undifferentiated Consciousness, or simply the Mystery. You are free to choose the way you conceive of the universe and your place in it. People who acknowledge themselves as part of and supported by something larger than themselves are less fearful and healthier than people who view the world through the windows of an ego dwelling, seeing the world as separate from themselves, and as being disconnected. We can not separate ourselves from the life force (Creator) that created us and gives us positive energy when we seek it and obey the laws of nature. Personal Spiritual Nourishment In an effort to maintain a state of harmony in my mind, body and spirit I exercise on a daily basis, I do a variety of yoga poses and deep breathing to relieve stress and stimulate my mind. My primary source of emotional wellness comes from my faith practice. When I arise every morning I read several inspirational devotionals along with my Bible. I then pray and give honor to the Creator. My belief in the Creator sustains me and keeps me in focus. I also attend church services during the week outside of Sunday. I have established many positive and nourishing relationships with my church associates. They have become my extended family. This is also a key factor in maintaining well being because it provides me with a good support system in the time of need. |
