Basic Rules for a Good Diet

1. Eat foods as near to their natural state as possible (whole, fresh, raw or lightly cooked, and free of additives). These foods have a higher nutritional value, provide greater energy or chi, and retain the fiber, which helps keep the digestive system healthy. Eat organic foods when possible to avoid consuming foods that carry unhealthful residues of pesticides and fungicides.

2. Do not eat too much of the foods which stress your system; saturated fats in meats, eggs, butter, cream and cheese, and coffee, tea, sugar and salt. The olive, corn, sunflower and many other plants provide oils, which can replace saturated fats. Use herbs to flavor dishes in place of salt.

3. Don't eat too much and never eat when you are full.

Components of a Balanced Diet

A balanced diet can be a low-cost diet consisting of the following:

  • Grains, beans and local vegetables in season are inexpensive food items.
  • Exotic fruits and vegetables imported from distant climates will throw us off balance at a high price.
  • Avoid white sugar, denatured flour and artificial stimulants. These drain the energy of the body and make assimilation of nutrients from whole foods more difficult.
