Detox with the Seasons

The human body is a highly structured unit that reacts and responds simultaneously to automated directives from the Central Nervous System (CNS), to sustain the body's continuous life building activities. Just like a computer or machine the human body needs ongoing maintenance. Our bodies are subjected to extensive deterioration from the environment, stress, and the refined and processed foods that weaken our digestive system. This results in many toxins in the body which can deplete the body of many key nutrients and prohibits the body from performing at optimum efficiency. So it is important that we honor our bodies and administer a regular cleaning or maintenance program. There are many types of detoxing or cleansing options to choose from. I recommend a whole body cleanse that concentrates on cleansing the organs and cells inside of the body as well as cleansing your skin. You should try to implement an internal body detox twice a year: Regular detoxing may:

  • Prevent disease before it makes you ill
  • Strengthen your immune system
  • Keep circulation healthy
  • Keep stress under control
  • Strengthen the body to effectively control the toxins it encounters

  • INTERNAL CLEANSING

    Increasing Elimination

Elimination of stool and urine is the body's primary method of getting rid of toxic substances. Especially important during detox, regular bowel movements decrease the likelihood that toxins will be reabsorbed into the body.

BENTONITE CLAY and FLAXSEEDS assist with the detox process. Bentonite is a type of edible clay that acts as a bulk laxative by absorbing water to form a gel. It binds toxins such as pesticides and helps to carry them out of the colon. Flaxseeds also absorb water and expand in the colon, allowing toxins and mucus to be removed. In addition, flaxseeds have been found to lower cholesterol levels.

Take one tablespoon of liquid bentonite and one tablespoon of ground flaxseeds in a glass of water first thing in the morning (wait at least 1/2 hour before eating) and before bed. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day or constipation may result. If flaxseed is unavailable, psyllium or oatbran can be substituted. Bentonite intake should be reduced and timed away from medication intake as it may interfere with absorption.

LEMON JUICE in water also has a slightly laxative effect and stimulates the digestive juices which are important for detox. Squeeze half a lemon into warm water and drink immediately after rising in the morning, before having the bentonite clay and flaxseed drink.

    ENJOY THE FOLLOWING FOODS:

  • FRESH FRUIT -- Go easy on grapefruit. A compound in grapefruit called naringin can significantly inhibit liver detox enzymes and should be avoided during detox diets.
  • FRESH VEGETABLES -- except corn (which can be an allergenic food). This includes baked sweet potato and white potato; no butter or sour cream only, lemon juice, sea salt and pepper only may be used (1 per day)
  • Good detox foods include broccoli, cauliflower, broccoli sprouts, onions, garlic, artichokes, beets and red and green vegetables.
  • 64 oz of water daily, flavored seltzer water and herbal teas
  • Fish, eggs, chicken, turkey, seafood and vegetarian sources of protein
  • All vegetables
  • All beans, except baked beans
  • Salad (no dressing - use extra virgin olive oil with fresh squeezed lemon)
  • 1-2 bananas per day, not to be used as a meal.
  • FISH -- Poached, broiled or steamed fish in moderation.
  • EXTRA-VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

  • AVOID THE FOLLOWING FOODS:
  • DAIRY PRODUCTS -- All dairy products (cheese, ice cream, skim milk)

  • SUGAR -- All foods with added sugar (soda, honey, sweeteners, maple syrup, brown sugar, turbinado and molasses)

  • Fruit juices

  • All red meat (including pork, lamb, beef and veal)

  • GLUTEN -- All gluten-containing grains, including barley, oats, rye, spelt and kamut. Some people are sensitive to gluten, a protein fragment in these grains.

  • All pasta (rice)

  • All condiments (mustard, ketchup, salad dressing, mayonnaise or vinegar)

  • No coffee, including decaf, tea with caffeine or alcohol (including beer)

  • WHEAT -- Wheat and products containing wheat.

  • CORN -- Corn and all corn products

  • YEAST

  • CHOCOLATE

  • HIGH-FAT FOODS

  • DAILY DETOX NECESSITIES:
  • Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day. Water is essential to clear waste from the blood. Thirst is often mistaken for hunger.

  • Do not drink liquids with your meals. Allow at least 60 minutes after eating before drinking liquids.

  • Take the time to chew food well, especially grains.

  • COLON HYDOTHERAPHY CLEANSING and ENEMAS'

You may also want to consider cleansing the colon with water with an enema or a colonic irrigation. The word Enema usually refers to a liquid that is forced (by low pressure) into the rectum, through anus, in order to induce bowel movement, or to wash/cleanse colon, or to re-populate colon with good bacteria, or to treat colon disease and colon related illness. Enema is an ancient remedy for all kinds of ailments, and especially for people suffering from serious injuries, constipation, poisoning, acute headache, flu, meningitis, parasites, measles, common cold, food poisoning.

A Colonic Irrigation using the gravitational method is an internal bath that helps cleanse the Colon of Poisons, Gas, and Accumulated Fecal Matter. Unlike an ENEMA, it does not involve the retention of water. There is NO discomfort, NO internal pressure, just a steady gentle flow in and out of the Colon. At the same time, an Abdominal Massage is given to stimulate the Colon to recover its natural Shape, Tone, and Peristaltic Wave Action. No other system can equal this process. If you are in metro Atlanta I recommend the following colon hydrotherapists.

    SUPPLEMENTAL DETOXIFICATION METHODS

    Therapeutic (Detox) Bath

For a therapeutic bath you can use mineral clays, aromatherapy oils, seaweeds and enzymes herbs to remove toxins from the body through the skin and place restorative healing nutrients back into the body through the skin. Seaweeds balance body chemistry, releases excess body fluids from congested cells and dissolves fatty wastes through the skin, replacing them with depleted minerals, particularly potassium and iodine.

    Prerequisites

  • Dry brush your body all over for five minutes with a natural bristle dry skin brush to remove toxins from the skin and open the pours for the nutrients.

  • Taking a Therapeutic Bath

    1. Draw very hot bath water.
    2. Put the herbs, seaweeds or mineral crystals into a large tea ball or muslin bath bag.
    3. Add mineral salts directly to the water.
    4. Steep until water cools and is aromatic.
    5. Rub the body with the solids in the muslin bag during the bath.

    Post Therapeutic Bath

Use a mineral salt scrub to make your skin feel healthy for hours.
